This is the thing I don't think people get. We see the absolute fringe of societies from around the world, but people in reddit say "typical Japanese". But the American that duct tapes himself, adds glue and feathers and fucks farm animals? They of course don't represent most Americans. Basically, take the most fucked up images of Americans. Now imagine that people online in Japan were as foolish as this community and assumed this was normal behavior.

日本人として言わせてもらうけど、外国人がこれ見ておかしいと思うのと同じ感じで日本人もこれみておかしいと思うよ。「うわ、キモっ」的な感じでね。例えばクレヨンしんちゃんなんかは似たようなスタイルのコメディだよ。アメリカ版は規制されてるから、オリジナルの日本版を見た方がいい。これは子どもと大人両方に向けたアニメだってことを頭に入れておいた上で。

考えてみれば世界中にある子どもがおしっこしてる噴水なんかも変だしね。

あと、これは実際には尿味ではないと思う。

As someone who is Japanese I would say Japanese people would find this funny in the same way we on reddit think this is funny. It's like a "ew gross haha" kind of thing. If you watch Crayon Shinchan it's a similar comedic style. The Americanized version really holds back the humor so I suggest the original Japanese version. Keep in mind this is a show for children as well as adults. Ever think about the million fountains around the world of little kids pissing? Also I doubt it was actually pee 'flavored'.

まぁ日本でもメインストリームではないんだろうけど、見た感じある程度公共の場でアニメ絵の小さな女の子の尿をかき氷のトッピングとして使用してて、周りに誰もそれに異を唱える人物も見当たらない。アメリカじゃあ絶対に見ることのない光景だよ。だから日本ではある程度こういうことに関する許容があるんだろうね。単純に文化の違いってやつだと思うよ。

Well, certainly it is not as mainstream in Japan as some would think. However, there is a cartoon pre-teen piss topping dispenser in a seemingly public place, with no apparent aghast or outraged citizens around it. Are you trying to say this is something you would EVER expect to see anywhere in the US? I would resoundingly say no. So clearly there is a bit more tolerance for this sort of thing in Japan, illustrating at least some difference in culture as far as this issue goes.
