That was my first thought. A very nice return to old school elegance. Granted, traveling across the US could take weeks when the transcontinental was first completed. That made hotels on rails more necessary, but who doesn't like to travel in comfort. I think train travel would be very popular here if we had something like this. I love to fly, but who likes showing up to the airport two hours early to be frisked and then sitting on a cramped plane and paying extra for bringing luggage?

I wish my government more than symbolically funded national infrastructure so that ventures like this were even in the realm of possibility instead of just relegated to the annals of japanese sci-fi.
